Trafford's Fairtrade Borough status renewed

Thanks to the continuing efforts of Trafford Council, its partners and a committed group of volunteers, the Borough has had its application to the Fairtrade Foundation to retain its Fairtrade status approved.
Trafford continues to promote the significant benefits of continuing to support the Fairtrade ethics.
Corporate Director of Environment, Transport and Operations, Peter Molyneux, said the efforts of local retailers, businesses and other organisations, together with cafes, restaurants and public houses has developed over the last 12 months.
"Securing Fairtrade status last year was always seen as the start of a continuing effort. By buying Fairtrade goods and promoting Fairtrade ethics, people are helping support producers worldwide.
To see so many people embracing Fairtrade is exciting. To have retained our status is testament to everyone involved. This hasn't just been retailers and businesses, a number of our local schools have been awarded Fairtrade School status and churches also sell Fairtrade goods."
An internet-based guide to buying Fairtrade goods has been developed, advertising organisations and establishments that support Fairtrade in Trafford by selling, providing or promoting a fair deal for developing countries to their customers, staff or residents.

Basil Wakefield, Chair of Trafford Fairtrade Groups, said:
“Trafford Fairtrade Group are very pleased and proud that the Fairtrade Foundation has approved the renewal of Trafford’s Fairtrade Borough status. Our group of volunteers has worked hard with Sharman Frost from Trafford Council and other partners to achieve this result. However, we can’t be complacent; we have to continue to show that we are supporting Fairtrade, so if you would like to join our group, please contact Basil Wakefield on 962 3243 or email basil.wakefield2@ntlworld.com. Or if you are a Trafford business that sells or uses Fairtrade products, please contact Sharman on 912-4645 or mailto:sharman.frost@trafford.gov.uk.”
